Charley's trip to Norway wasn't completely without complications. His flight out of London was 2 1/2 hours delayed which made him miss his connection in Oslo. He arrived at Evenes Airport very late and had to spend the night in the city and then catch the first boat down to Sandsøy the next day. This is his view from the hotel he stayed at. The boat in the photo is the cruise boat "Hurtigruten", which travels along the coast of Norway from Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the north. Bergen is on the southwest part of Norway. Kirkenes is all the way north close to the Russian border. Check out this map of Norway on this link: www.hurtigruten.no/Norge/  click on the little map of Norway and it will show you all the cities and towns the cruise boat visits. You can also choose US as country and get all the descriptions in English.

Here is a photo from the dock in Harstad right before Charley departed he city to head to Sandsøy. The weather was beautiful this day, but pretty dark. This photo is taken about 9am.

This is the harbor in Bjarkøy on the way to Sandsøy at about 10am.

Another view from the harbor in Bjarkøy. The boat in the photo is "Øyfart", the ambulance boat in the island community. Unfortunately, the boat was in a shipwreak in a storm and is now in many pieces on the shore not far away from Sandsøy. All the medical equipment and other items onboard the boat is lost, too. The crew made it into the life raft before the boat was crushed against the rocks, so they are all fine, except for the experience they had. Check out this link for a photo of the boat: www.ht.no/incoming/article215053.ece
A replacement boat arrived a couple of days ago so the community now has a way of reaching the hospital in the city again if necessary.
