Gorgeous view seen on our bike ride. The snow is settling lower in the mountains.
The children have a few days off school per month, and I take them on excursions on the island on these days. Hopefully we'll do a couple trips off the island, too. This day we delivered the berries we picked on our last trip to the senior home and had a wonderful bike ride to the other side of the island. The kids had lots of fun and learned a few new facts about scallops.

Two of the three women who live at the senior home was there when we delivered the Norwegian Cranberries we picked on our last excursion. They were happy to get some fresh berries.

Now we are ready for our 4km (one way) bike ride to Slagstad. This is at the front door of the senior home.

We are at our destination, Slagstad. A wonderful bike ride and we saw two moose of the way there!

Barbara and her friend, Sigrid, playing games at the beach. The island in the back on the right side of the picture is 'Andørja' where my friend, Mary Ashley (Daughters of Norway lodge #32), goes to visit her family.

There were a total of 10 of us on this bicycle trip. Here are a few of them browsing the beach for scallop shells.

Learning about scallops.

'Look what I found', says Marte, showing a scallop with a few shrimp (dead ones) in it. Scientific name on scallops: pectinoidea. We found out why there are so many of these shells on this side of the island by learning how these shells eat. Check it out on Wikipedia for pictures and more information!! :-)

Grilling hot dogs is a must in any biking or hiking trip on Sandsøy.
